The Powershot G5 Canon is very similar to its predecessor, the G3, but with 4 main differences. It offers 5.0 megapixels instead of 4.0. The digital zoom is 4.1X instead of 3.6X. The LCD resolution is 118K pixels instead of 113,578. And, the body color is black instead of silver. The G5 Canon features a 1/1.8” five megapixel CCD sensor which captures 2592 X 1944 pixel images with stunning color fidelity and detail. The Powershot seems to be widely approved by photographers for its availability of shooting modes which allow the shooter to customize it to their own shooting style. This camera can automatically rotate images for proper viewing during playback and also has a special feature which allows shooters to focus on off-center subjects without having to move the camera every time. With the purchase of a specialized conversion lens adapter you can use several other after market items to change the zoom, focal length, or for close up shots which will allow you to more fully customize your picture options. It comes with a 32MB card which is higher than what most other 5Megapixel cameras provide, but will still need to be upgraded. A 256MB card seems to be the most popular option. The battery life on the G5 Canon is longer than many cameras on the market today at 8.1 Watt/hours of power. 750 shots with 50% LCD use and offers 360 minutes in playback mode. The battery type is the BP-511 Li-ion battery which means you can’t replace it with standard batteries like some other cameras allow. For this reason, it’s recommended to spend the $50 for an extra battery in case you’re not able to charge it when you need it. A dual battery charger with car power adapter is also available for more convenient charging. The battery charges to 90% capacity in an hour and 20 minutes and takes an additional 2 hours to complete the charge to 100%. A great feature many people love about this camera is the wireless remote control which is included in the original package. This allows for ease in recording and playback and does not require an additional purchase. The G5 Canon has a Direct Print function that is compatible with Canon’s CP-10 and CP-100 dyesublimation printers. It can also be used with Bubble Jet Direct photo printers which allow for quick, high quality pictures without using the computer. |
